MAGPIES SWOOP INTO SECOND PLACE
Neil Taylor took his promotion chasing side Semington Magpies to a depleted South Newton & Barford Hornets outfit, who despite not being at what they would say were full strength made their guests work hard for maximum points.
With leaders Freshford United along with a handful of other Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division teams turning their attentions to the A&B Cup, a 4-1 win for the Magpies in the early afternoon match saw them move into second place.
Semington Magpies took a 28th minute lead courtesy of Harry Thorne and once the resilience of the hosts defence had been cracked, Magpies would have thought that a few more goals would follow, however that wasn’t the case as South Newton battened down the hatches and kept the score at the break to 1-0.
The second half saw South Newton & Barford Hornets sting the visitors as a first goal of the season from Lee Johnson saw parity restored. Semington were quickly back in front, a second of the afternoon for Harry Thorne saw them regain the lead on 51 minutes.
With the stuffing knocked out of them South Newton fell further behind on 61 minutes, substitute Jiordan Burrell-Mendis making it 3-1 and just 6 minutes later a second from Burrell-Mendis wrapped up all 3 points for Neil Taylor’s side.

ROWLAND & DAWES STAR FOR DILTON
In another early kick-off, Dilton Marsh Wanderers who had failed to win any of their previous five matches, made a welcome return to winning ways. At home to a struggling and massively depleted Bishops Cannings Reserves side Dilton rediscovered the winning formula with both Dale Rowland and Cameron Dawes staring in their 10-0 triumph.
Dale Rowland opened the scoring from the penalty spot, Liam Lawes doubled the hosts advantage before Rowland thundered home a long range effort to make it 3-0.
With Dilton Marsh in the mood for more goals, it was Rowland who added their fourth with what was his hat trick goal. Further goals for Lewis Howe and Jedd Cooley along with a fourth of the afternoon from Rowland put Dilton seven-up after 45 minutes.
The first 45 minutes, may have gone down as the Dale Rowland show, but the second half was all about substitute Cameron Dawes who after coming of the bench helped himself to the second hat trick of the game, his first saw him head home for 8-0, he drilled home a beauty for his second, but saved his best until last when after being fed by Jedd Cooley he raced though from the half way line before firing home to complete the hosts 10-0 win.
Trowbridge Town Tigers FC v Hilperton Greyhound FC
LATCHEM LASHES HOME LATE WINNER FOR GREYHOUND
A seventh win the campaign for Hilperton Greyhound has moved them on level points (19) with second placed Semington Magpies, the former who are currently 4 points behind leaders Freshford United, but with a game in hand, look to be around for the long haul, but it has to be said, their latest opponents Trowbridge Town Tigers made them work hard for their 1-0 success.
In a match where both defences’ were on top and in particular Greyhound’s Matty Hall who put in a player of the match performance, however it was a combination of substitutes Jack Morris and Mason Latchem who combined to score Greyhound’s winner.
Having come off the bench in the 75th minute, Latchem drove home a stunning 20 yard strike in the 79th minute to earn the promotion hopefuls the narrowest 1-0 victories.
