MARK & MATT FIRE LEADERS TO VICTORY 

Gooding Accounts Ltd sponsored-Trowbridge & District Football League, Second Division, leaders Freshford United are certainly living up to their pre-season tag of favourites to win the title.  Their latest triumph, a 2-0 victory over second placed Hilperton Greyhound saw them open up a 10 point gap on the chasing pack.

In what was an evenly matched first 45 minutes, neither team could fashion an opener, however that quickly changed in the second period with Mark Maguire breaking the deadlock within a couple of minutes of the restart to give Freshford the lead.

With the match ebbing and flowing and chances coming and going for both sides, the next goal was always going to be important and as they started the second half with a bang, Freshford ended with an explosion as a Matt Bond goal sealed a 2-0 triumph for the hosts, that wraps up their 11th win in thirteen outings.


Bishops Cannings Reserves FC 1 Calne Eagles FC 1

CANNINGS & EAGLES ENDS ALL SQUARE

Bishops Cannings Reserves and Calne Eagles fought out a 1-1 draw on the 4G pitch at Green Lane, Devizes.

Bishops Cannings took the lead on 4 minutes when Ethan Howard put them ahead from a Danile Vasquez assist.

Calne weren’t behind for long as they managed to restore parity on 15 minutes through Adam Welch, incredibility after the quickfire start which had promised a glut of goals, neither team were able to conjure up a winner, with the match ending all square at 1-apiece.


Holt FC 3 Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 1

FURIOUS DILTON SUFFER HOLT LOSS

Dilton Marsh Wanderers were already depleted for their trip to Holt FC, however the late withdrawal keeper Cam Dawes led to a late call up for Shane Rendall to take on the goal keeping duties, however with Rendall hurting his back in the warm up, it meant that Carl Ledbury jumped between the sticks for a match which was played in very challenging windy conditions, especially for the team playing up the Holt slope as the wind was against them.

With neither team finding the net in the first half, the deadlock broken on 51 minutes when Jordan Smith latched on to a Alfie Propert assist to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Dilton Marsh got themselves level on 60 minutes, Dan Bryce finding the net to make it 1-1.  Dilton were still celebrating their equaliser when they had to make a substitution to one of their defenders, while the replacement was making his way onto the pitch, Holt took the kick off and immediately regained the lead, with Alfie Propert putting 2-1 up, with the goal leading to protests from the Dilton players who were still waiting for their substitute to get into position.

What was a fine match between the sides was finally settled on 82 minutes when Kieran Plummer set up Jordan Smith for his second and Holt’s third on a wind swept afternoon, that actually saw the villagers claim a share of second place along with Hilperton Greyhound.
