DIVISION ONE ROUND UP – WEEK 15

Seend United FC 4 Semington Magpies FC 1

The match of the day in the Gooding Accounts sponsored Trowbridge League Division One, saw reigning champions Seend United host a Semington Magpies side who went into the title 6-point on a 13 match unbeaten run.

When the teams met earlier in the season, the points were shared as the teams fought out a 1-1 draw, on this occasion Magpies saw their excellent run come to an end as Andy Dyer’s side ran out 4-1 victors.

Rich Hudson gave the current champions the lead, Gary Higdon doubled the hosts lead and he gave them a 3-0 interval lead when he beat the Magpies keeper from inside his own half to take his tally for the season to 17.

Jordan Evans scored a fourth for Seend before Andrew Keightly scored a consolation for a Magpies side who will look to get back to winning ways with a tricky trip to Warminster Town Reserves next Saturday.


Dilton Marsh Wanderers FC 2 Hilperton Greyhound FC 4

For a second successive weekend Dilton Marsh Wanderers have been guilty of surrendering a 2-1 interval lead, last week they were beaten at The Stiffs, this Saturday then led Hilperton Greyhound FC, before suffering a 4-2 defeat and for back-to-back games they finished the match with 10 players, having had Luke Tree sent off.

John Bird saw his opener for Greyhound wiped out by Harry Thorne and when Dilton’s captain Dale Rowland put them 2-1 up, they were well worth their lead.

Richard Coleman got Greyhound back on level terms and a Josh Propert saw them reclaim the lead and a second from Propert wrapped up a 4-2 win for Darren Brewer’s side.


FC Devizes United 2 Heytesbury & Codford FC 5

Since their 6-0 victory away at Lower Stratton in the Wiltshire Junior Cup, Heytesbury & Codford FC have put together a 5 match winning run their latest success saw them defeat FC Devizes United 5-2.

Goals from Sam McEntee and Warren Moreland gave Heytesbury & Codford a 2-0 lead before Oscar Webster pulled a goal back for Devizes. A Chris Steele strike gave the visitors to Goatacre a 3-1 lead at the break.

The second period started really well for Devizes with second for Webster narrowing the gap to the odd goal, however that was as close as they got to their guests as Jordan Leverett and Liam Gibbens wrapped up another fine win for Sam Spratt’s side.


The Stiffs FC 6 Freshford United FC 5

After picking up their first win of the season last week when they beat Dilton Marsh Wanderers, The Stiffs FC have picked up a second successive victory as they edged out Freshford United FC in an 11-goal thriller that saw them claim a 6-5 win.

Goals from Steve Lewin and Billy Simpson put the Stiffs 2-0 ahead, Dan Birleson and Alfie Little scored for Freshford to restore parity.

A Jake Davies penalty saw the Stiffs regain the lead, but back came Freshford who make it 3-3 thanks to a Dan Sandiford effort.

The entertainment was over and with the first half drawing to a close, Billy Simpson scored his second of the contest to give The Stiffs a 4-3 half time lead.

The Stiffs stretched their lead to 6-3 thanks to goals from Nick Joyce and Billy Simpson which saw him complete a 3-timer.

Freshford may have been down and seemingly out of it, but that wasn’t the case as they gave Stiffs an almighty scare as they clawed their way back into the game as a further 2 goals from Dan Birleson took his tally to 3, but it wasn’t enough as Stiffs held on to claim a thrilling 6-5 win.


Warminster Town Reserves FC 1 Holt FC 1

Warminster Town Reserves FC and Holt FC met for a second successive Saturday. Nigel Tripp’s Holt side arriving at the Town’s, Weymouth Street ground on the back a 4-2 success last weekend.

On this occasion it looked as if Warminster were going to avenge last weeks win, however that was until the introduction of late substitute Peter Andrews who turned out to be Holt’s saviour.

After a goalless first half, Warminster broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, Drew Adams scoring on his debut to give the hosts the lead.

With the clock running down, Holt threw on Pete Andrews in the 83rd minute and just 3 minutes later he was on hand to turn the ball home from a Jordan Smith assist and earn his team a share of the spoils from the 1-1 draw.
